Creating Health--Type 2 Diabetes Part 2

This special focuses on Type 2 diabetes, a disorder resulting from the body's inability to make enough, or properly use, insulin. The most common form of the disease, accounting for 90 to 95 percent of diabetes, Type 2 diabetes is nearing epidemic proportions, due to an increased number of older Americans, and a greater prevalence of obesity and sedentary lifestyles. The complications of diabetes can include heart disease; stroke, high blood pressure; blindness; kidney disease, nervous system diseases; amputations; and dental disease. This program profiles several individuals - some who are at high-risk for contracting the disease and some who already have it. Viewers learn how lifestyle changes are helping these individuals manage the risk and the disease, and maintain a high quality of life. The program also offers valuable information from health experts with a focus on prevention.
